Worked out not too bad. Drive into St. Pauls, a nice drive to Stanley Park and Third Beach. Then a jaunt down to Granville Island.
It was kind of cool to visit Third Beach. The place were all the teens would hang out in the summer. Most all the same age and usually all from the same areas/schools. Got many good sunburns down there, and lots of "teen age boy looking at teen age girl" time. Had a hotdog at one of the picnic tables.
Drove back through downtown VCR and visited Granville Island.
I am always torn when I visit there. It is a very tourist/commercial/service industry/entertainment kind of area. I am sure that some hipster, yuppie, downtown living GenX of Millenial thinks of this place as 'vibrant', 'interesting', 'dynamic', etc.
I tend to remember the Island as it was back in the late '60's and '70's.
A place with boatyards, machine shops, mechanic shops, places building and repairing all kinds of interesting boats, trucks, cars, machines of all sorts. The Island, the way it is now, is actually kind of boring and although there are lots of people around, kind of lack lustre.
Did get a nice ride on one of the False Creek Ferries though!
A quick shot from the balcony @ the Sandman on Davie Street. I really like Vancouver and would probably enjoy living there again. But, I also enjoy living out in the Valley.
Walking down Davie Street around 8 in the morning. Three people sleeping on the sidewalk. I do not understand how a beautiful city like Vancouver can end up having such problems with homelessness and substance abuse.
